Weaving a Willow Breakfast Tray
A willow breakfast tray is built gradually, with the structure emerging step by step as the weaving progresses. The process begins with establishing a strong base, which forms the foundation for the tray’s surface. From there, the weave is developed and the form begins to take shape as the sides are defined.

Getting Started
Take green or semi green willow, meaning willow recently harvested after the leaves fall off; wrap 2 stout willow rods around a rectangular form and secure with zip ties.
Let dry this will take 1-4 months depending on climate.
Step 1
Remove from frame and choose 6 dry sticks, start with 3 on a side.
With this framework, you will weave in 2 different patterns until base is complete.
Step 2
With this framework you will weave in 2 different patterns.
Prick-up to make the side frames, weave a 3 rod-wale.
Step 3
Then weave a border.
Step 4
